December Tyre of the Month - Goodyear UltraGrip 8 Performance

With the cold weather setting in and a season of unexpected weather ahead of us, here at PTA Garages we’ve done our research into the importance of Winter Tyres.

As a result, our tyre of the month this Christmas season is the UltraGrip 8 Performance from Goodyear.

The UltraGrip 8 Performance is a high performance tyre, designed specifically for tough snow conditions. Launched for the winter of 2013, Brandy Gadd, Goodyear brand manager said:

"Goodyear developed this innovative tire to help performance drivers prepare for the changing weather conditions of the winter months. Rather than keeping their fun-to-drive cars in the garage during the cold season, they have the opportunity to enjoy them, even in the middle of winter."

A recent positive review by Speed Academy revealed the opinion of a true, performance style driver – how to make it through the winter while still being able to feed your need for fun on four wheels... “So we tested the UltraGraip 8 Performance  out in light snow, heavy snow, deep snow, slush, ice and everything in between, and we always felt confident behind the wheel!” Dave Pratte

Hydrodynamic tread grooves drastically reduces the risk of aquaplaningMother Nature might not consistently throw buckets of snow at the UK, but the winter of 2013/14 did prove to be one of the wettest on record. The UltraGrip 8 Performance drastically reduces the risk of aquaplaning thanks to the special hydrodynamic tread grooves. These quickly channel water away from the tyre surface, helping drivers keep control on wet and slushy roads (which are a very common occurrence during winter months).

The saw shaped central rib offers extra traction and enhanced handlingWhen we are blessed with a flurry, unfortunately the majority of the UK comes to a halt. Keep calm and carry on with the UltraGrip 8 Performance. Offering incredible handling on snow, this tyre enhances confidence when driving on snow covered roads. Superior grip and braking is evident on hard-packed snow, thanks to the saw-shaped central rib, that works like a snowplow, grabbing onto surface snow for extra traction.

A large contact patch offers an excellent performance on iceA large contact patch is included in the design of this tyre which gives excellent performance on ice. The silica tread compound maintains good grip at temperatures below 7 °C meaning optimum safety and control can be achieved, regardless of the weather this winter.
