DVLA Online Driving Licence – What you need to know

DVLA Online Driving Licence – What you need to know

The DVLA has recently launched a new online account for motorists which allows them to view their driving licence and vehicle details all together in one place. But what does this mean for motorists?

What are the benefits of the DVLA online driving licence?

Motorists can now view their driving licence details and vehicle information in one handy central location. This change will make keeping track of important information easier, like when your road tax is due without relying on getting a letter through the door or having to sign up to lots of different reminder services.

The new service allows motorists to choose their preferred communication option like email or SMS. This means you can choose the communication method that suits you best.

The new online system aims to limit the amount of paper used to send road tax notifications to motorists, which is beneficial to the environment.

How can the new DVLA online driving licence help plan vehicle maintenance?

The new DVLA driving licence helps motorists track their tax and MOT status, reducing the risk of missing any important dates and deadlines. Easy access to vehicle information can help motorists to plan for servicing and maintenance. Having your service history available can also help to diagnose potential issues or book preventative maintenance.

How to sign up?

To use the DVLA online driving licence account, you need to have a driving licence issued in England, Scotland or Wales and have a vehicle log book, also known as a V5C registered in your name. It’s important to note, that you can’t set up vehicle tax reminders if you pay by direct debit, and you also need a UK passport or document used for your immigration status.

How can PTA help?

If you’re signed up for the new DVLA online driving account and are notified that your next MOT is due, simply book your MOT online at your local PTA garage.
