When is my MOT due and how long does it take?

Wondering how to check when your MOT is due? Or how long an MOT takes? Learn everything you need to know from our detailed guide.

When is my MOT due?

The simplest way to check when your MOT is due is through the GOV.uk website. Simply select ‘Start Now’ and enter your vehicle registration number. The search results will prompt you to confirm the vehicle you’re wanting to check the MOT expiry date for. As well as checking when your MOT is due, you can also see the date of first registration, year of manufacture, vehicle status and if your vehicle has been taxed.

You can also check the MOT vehicle history through the GOV.uk site – here you can find out information about previous MOT tests, including pass and fail rates, as well as any defects and advisories your vehicle received on its test certificate.

How long does an MOT test take?

Typically, an MOT lasts between 45 minutes to 1 hour. Here at PTA Garages, our appointment slots come in 1 hour slots.

Customers are more than welcome to wait in our waiting areas. Alternatively, some customers prefer to leave the car with us, allowing them to continue with their day, and pick the car up later when the MOT test has been completed.

We have a number of MOT located throughout South East England where we offer MOT testing for cars (and other class 4 vehicles) and motorbikes in our Shirley branch. Find out more about our MOT services from your local PTA branch today. Alternatively, get in touch with a member of our expert team.
